Traineeships

What is a traineeship?

A traineeship is a skills-development programme that includes a work placement and is aimed at moving young people towards an apprenticeship or a job. It can last from six weeks up to one year, though most traineeships last for less than six months. As well as increasing the number of traineeships for 16–18 year olds, providers can access funding to offer traineeships to 19–24 year olds. There is more information about traineeships on the gov.uk website.

What will I gain?

Traineeships are aimed at people who have no prior experience or qualification in archaeology, so you will be learning everything from scratch. Typically your traineeship will last for six months and might lead to a L3 Archaeological Technician apprenticeship, or to further training or employment with the company where you did your placement. You will be gaining practical skills and archaeological knowledge that will also help you develop your professional career.

Where can I find a traineeship?

Traineeships work differently across the UK. You can find out more about traineeships in your area here:
