Consultation events for the Curating the Lower & Middle Palaeolithic project

Dear all,

A final reminder (with apologies to those who are already booked onto the workshops) about the consultation events for the Curating the Lower & Middle Palaeolithic project, which will be held across England in the autumn of this year.

These meetings are a key stage in the project, enabling you to raise and discuss issues surrounding the management of the Lower and Middle Palaeolithic resource (a summary of the project’s overall goals is provided at the bottom of this page), and make recommendations for potential edits to the project’s draft guidelines.

The meetings build on the project’s initial survey (circulated in January of this year), to which many of you responded. Prior to the meetings we will circulate the project’s draft guidelines and case studies to the attendees.

The four regional events will be held as follows:

  • London (South-east region): 12th October 2018 – Address: Historic England, Cannon Bridge House, 25 Dowgate Hill, London, EC4R 2YA. ** Please note that this meeting is now FULLY BOOKED **

  • Bristol (South-west region): 2nd November 2018 – Address: Double Tree, Redcliffe Way, Bristol, BS1 6NJ

  • Nottingham (East Midlands & East Anglia region): 9th November 2018 – Address: British Geological Survey Centre, De la Beche Conference Suite, British Geological Survey Centre, Nicker Hill, Keyworth, Nottingham, NG12 5GG

  • Manchester (West Midlands & North region): 23rd November 2018 – Address: Friends Meeting House, 6 Mount Street, Manchester, M2 5NS

The events are all catered and free, but with a cap of 40 attendees at each meeting – to enable effective discussion. There are still places available at the Bristol, Nottingham and Manchester meetings. Please note that while the exact focus of the discussions may vary slightly by region, the general project themes explored at each meeting will be the same.

Best regards,

The Curating the Lower & Middle Palaeolithic Project team

Project overview: The overall aim of the Curating the Lower & Middle Palaeolithic project is to produce clear and accessible new guidance documents that will advise curators, Local Planning Authorities, consultants and contractors in the management of the Lower and Middle Palaeolithic resource.

Central to the project is an evaluation of current practices and future needs, through consultation with all the interested parties, initially through a short on-line survey and subsequently through regional consultation events in Autumn 2018. We are very grateful for your time and input into the project
