Guidelines for Cultural Heritage Impact Assessment Request for Expressions of Interest for a Writer

The professional community recognise the need for new, comprehensive guidelines that present a clear, well respected and authoritative view of what constitutes current best practice in cultural heritage studies for impact assessment.

The Chartered Institute of Archaeologists (CIfA), The Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) and IEMA have signed an agreement to author these new guidelines. The three authors alongside other professionals have formed a project Advisory Panel. The project was launched in April 2017 and funding has now been secured to take the project forward*.

The Advisory Panel is now seeking to appoint a writer who will work with them to deliver the new guidelines which are due for publication in April 2019.

The writer will draft the Guidelines in accordance with a detailed brief set by the Advisory Panel, following development of the brief and methodology with the writer. The writer will prepare and deliver a complete manuscript, including text and illustrations, that is clearly written to a high standard of English, to the Advisory Panel.

The commissioned writer must fulfil the following criteria:

A. An extremely high standard of written English;
B. Experience of drafting large complex documents for cultural heritage or planning related projects;
C. A thorough knowledge and understanding of current cultural heritage studies for impact assessment, and demonstrable recent experience in the field;
D. Detailed knowledge of EIA and its application across the project lifecycle;
E. Experience of acting as expert professional;
F. Experience in participating in projects for which skills can easily be transferred to this project; and
G. Current professional accreditation and technical qualifications.
