Based in our Brighton office but local homeworking considered where appropriate as regular attendance at the office is required. 

Summary

This is an excellent opportunity to begin, or further, your early-stage career in archaeological consultancy.  Degree or Post-graduate qualification in British Archaeology is essential.  

Due to the volume of work there is a need for support in assisting senior consultants in the preparation of technical documents such as archaeological desk based assessments addressing heritage constraints for our clients. As well as academic knowledge of British archaeology, the candidate will ideally have an understanding of the legislative and planning policy framework within which commercial archaeology is undertaken in the UK. However, full training on this and other commercial consultancy skills will be given as part of the role on an ongoing basis .

You will work as part of a team and with full support and training to undertake research and draft professional level reports as a junior archaeology consultant.  You will work on projects with colleagues from across Orion Heritage.

Key responsibilities include:

  • baseline data collection (from archives, site walk-over survey etc);
  • research and prepare, or contribute to, technical documents such as desk based assessments.

You must have the following essential criteria:

  • A sound understanding of the policy and legislative context for UK archaeology
  • Excellent writing skills 
  • A degree or post graduate qualification in British archaeology 
  • A willingness to learn and appreciation of the high standards and fast turnaround required in the commercial environment
  • Good organisational & communication skills; willingness to develop your people skills

Desirable criteria:

  • CIfA membership at PCIfA level
  • Digital Graphic skills for input into technical documents and to assist the Graphics Manager (specific training would be provided as part of the package)
  • Knowledge of GIS 
  • Full driving licence
