Senior Supervisor/Senior Archaeologist

Foundations Archaeology is an independent commercial unit based in Swindon, which operates country-wide. It is a well-established, small company, which has been trading for over 20 years. Due to a successful year there is currently a need for additional members of staff. The work will be based out of the Swindon office, but will involve stay-away projects across the UK, as required, for which accommodation; subsistence and mileage (where applicable) will be paid.

As a Registered Organisation for CIfA Foundations Archaeology follow CIfA’s minimum salary recommendations.

Benefits also include: 20 days paid holiday in addition to all annual bank holidays, a company pension, single, private rooms in provided accommodation as well as subsistence (upto £15/night) on stay-away projects, free transport available from office to all sites, all PPE provided. We will also pay for all CIfA subscription fees during your time with us, as well as fund regular social gatherings.

Skills required:

• Proven track record in supervising commercial, fieldwork projects.
• Previous experience in client and supervising bodies’ liaison.
• Experience in writing fieldwork (grey literature) reports preferable for Senior Supervisor position and essential for Senior Archaeologist.
• Experience in desk-based assessments desirable.
• Full UK driving licence, clean essential.
• CSCS certified.
• Membership of CIfA desirable.
• Minimum ACIfA or equivalent preferred.

Personal Skills:

Candidates should be enthusiastic, ethical, hard-working and flexible, as well as being able to use initiative. The successful candidate will have proven experience in relevant roles within commercial archaeology organisations. S/he must be able to work effectively as a team player as well as independently and will have excellent written and verbal communication skills. S/he must have good prioritising and organisational skills in order to supervise fieldwork and be able to work effectively to short project timescales.
