Terrestrial Geophysicist - Senior Project Manager

The position:

An opportunity has arisen for an additional geophysicist to join the Geoservices Team based in Salisbury, Sheffield, or Meopham. The successful candidates will be well-placed to develop and improve their existing geophysics skills and will have the opportunity to work on some of the highest profile and most interesting development projects in the UK today.

The primary responsibilities of the role include:

• Act as lead geophysicist, including training, mentoring, supervising and supporting junior colleagues.
• Manage projects under the direction of the manager, including responsibility for tender costs, project budgets, and timescale/delivery
• To be responsible for the delivery and management of a comprehensive range of geophysical surveys (gradiometer, resistivity, GPR, EM, ERT) across the UK.
• To aid in design and set up of surveys.
• To prepare, check, edit, collate, and process digital data.
• To interpret the geophysical data and produce an informed and considered technical report based upon the results.
• Quality control of data from sites as well as the interpretation and reports of peers.
• To ensure the preparation of client reports is carried out in accordance with relevant legislation, planning policy, and current national guidance.

The successful candidates must have a demonstrable understanding of British archaeology and the typical responses expected from various features for each technique.

Position requirements:

Essential

• A good degree in archaeology or related subject;
• An excellent, organised and efficient researcher;
• Experience of terrestrial geophysical data processing and interpretation;
• Ability to work with self-awareness and the confidence to ask questions;
• Ability to manage own time and work to tight deadlines;
• A flexible approach to working hours to meet the demands of the role, including occasional working away from home;
• The ability to work as part of a team and the willingness to support and assist others;
• A full, clean driving license.

Desirable

• Membership of the Chartered Institute of Archaeologists;
• Experience of processing and interpreting radar data.
