Description

This day conference and AGM will look at what preparations are in place for coping with the huge quantities of archives (both physical and digital) that are constantly being generated by development-led archaeology, as well as considering what can and should be done with museums’ existing collections.

What legal and ethical issues currently affect the deposition of archives, and how can these be addressed? What impact has the recent introduction of CIfA’s Selection Toolkit had on the volume of material being archived, and how widely are people engaging with it – both contractors and repositories? If there is no space or facility to accept an archive for deposition, whose responsibility should it be to resolve the problem? What actually happens with an archive once it has been deposited, and how can we encourage people to engage with them more?

As well as problems concerning physical archives, how well is the profession getting to grips with the requirements of digital archiving, and are adequate resources in place to accept the resultant archives? What challenges are presented by different types of digital data, and how can we address these? Is digital archiving an afterthought at the end of a project, or are its requirements being addressed throughout a project?

Submissions will be invited from a wide range of roles and organisations, with the aim of generating discussion based on the real experiences of people across the sector.

The AGM & conference will be held at Castle House, Newark, in Nottinghamshire. Tea and coffee will be provided, but attendees should provide their own lunch.

If possible, sessions will be recorded and distributed after the fact.

Members are welcome to attend the AGM only for free. If you would like to attend the AGM only please get in touch. 

Refunds

A full refund may be given on cancellations up to one week before the event. Within one week, a 50% refund will be given up to 24 hours before the event.
