Thanks to the CIfA bursary I was fortunate to attend CIfA2023 as an online participant. I was particularly interested in attending the Forensic Archaeology session The Scope and Nature of Forensic Archaeology as it ties in directly with my area of research. This session had a wide range of speakers (just as all the other sessions did) who lead discussions on the role of forensic archaeology in the UK and internationally. It provided the opportunity to stay up to date with developments in this field and was interesting to listen to.
The conference’s online platform was user-friendly. It was possible to see the schedule for the whole conference and select the sessions of interest to form your unique schedule. Accessing the Zoom links for the sessions was also really easy, once in the sessions there was an opportunity for the online participants to ask questions just as much as there was for those who were attending in person. As a research student, finding the funds to attend conferences is often extremely difficult, I am grateful that the CIfA online bursary made it possible for me to attend CIfA2023.
