I am a post graduate student: Archaeology and Heritage practice, University of Chester. Thanks to a Past Horizons online attendance bursary I was able to attend seven conference sessions in total and found the online platforms were easy to navigate and effective.
I am entering archaeology after 20 years in the arts industry and I have an interest in community archaeology and public engagement. A number of sessions I attended were themed around public value and benefit which were of great interest and where I learned of some fantastic and interesting projects such as ‘Operation Nightingale’ and ‘Make a Splash’.
As someone new to the industry it was valuable and insightful to attend sessions which had discussions about the current challenges and concerns within archaeology. Themes of inclusion, well-being and a people-centered approach to the work was clearly demonstrated across many of the sessions.
I am very grateful for this bursary and the opportunities it presented to engage with the wider archaeological community and to begin to understand the wider industry activities and discussions. I wish to thank Past Horizons for this support.
