Summary

Archaeology South-East is recruiting for a Project Manager (Geomatics) to join our established team working on a range of projects across eastern England. This is a full-time, permanent post (subject to probation) offering the opportunity to join the core team based at our Portslade office in Sussex.

Archaeology South-East is part of UCL – a global multidisciplinary university with a diverse community and progressive approach to teaching and research.  As part of the UCL Institute of Archaeology, research and learning are at our core - and we want you to work with us to continue delivering this mission.

We take pride in delivering high quality project outcomes for our clients, working hard to maximise research and public benefit from development-led fieldwork. We work for a range of people supporting development and infrastructure projects as well as heritage management. Our large team provides a comprehensive range of services and areas of specialist expertise.

In this role you will undertake the management and delivery of our geomatics projects. This includes management of ongoing programmes of metric and topographic survey using DGNSS, Total Stations and photogrammetry, as well as programmes of unmanned aerial photography, LiDAR and geophysical survey (involving magnetometry and resistivity). The role requires the supervision of a small team including responsibility for their work programme, training and growth. ASE and the UCL Institute of Archaeology own and operate cutting edge UAV technology and this position offers an excellent opportunity to develop and expand into this field.

This is an exciting opportunity to work within an enthusiastic and expert team, and we are keen to attract applications from suitably experienced archaeologists committed to delivering research excellence that meets the exacting standards of our commercial and public sector clients. The post will be based in Archaeology South-East’s premises in Portslade, East Sussex, although travel to sites and other ASE offices will be required to fulfil this role.

The postholder will play a key role in the ASE Project Management team to maintain and expand the work of ASE. The role will require the postholder to build and maintain effective relations with all members of the Field and Survey team, as well as staff from other ASE sections and ASE administrative staff. The postholder will also be required to liaise effectively with external stakeholders.

Key Requirements

Applicants should have demonstrable experience of archaeological survey within the context of archaeological fieldwork practice, ideally within a professional UK-based context. This experience should include interpretation of survey results and preparation of reports drawing on such results.

Applicants should have demonstrable capability to undertake archaeological metric surveys, land surveys, topographic surveys and set out using Differential Global Navigation Satellite Systems, Total Stations and ability to post process kinematic data.

Applicants will ideally have experience of supervising small teams and of providing training in survey methods and practice.

Applicants should have a sufficient practical and research experience to meet the criteria required to qualify for membership of Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) at Member (MCIFA) level.

A clean, current driving license is essential for this role.
