Summary

We are seeking to appoint an experienced Post-Excavation Project Manager to our head office on a permanent basis, subject to successful completion of a 6-month probationary period. We have a portfolio of large, ongoing infrastructure projects currently at post-excavation stage, as well as a host of residential and commercial schemes of all periods and sizes, including several of national and international importance. Assistance with relocation costs may be available.

We currently employ over 40 staff, but we retain the ethos of a smaller organisation, particularly in regards to the training and opportunities that we offer. The team are primarily based in Lincoln, for fieldwork projects across the UK, but with a particular focus in the East Midlands and East Anglia. We have regional offices in Preston, Cambridgeshire, Birmingham and Southampton.

The successful candidate will have considerable, proven experience of producing costings and quotations for clients, compiling written schemes of investigation and of managing post-excavation projects through to publication and archiving, all on time and within budget. You will be responsible for ensuring that all work is of a quality which meets the requirements of current standards and guidance and will be responsible for line management of members of the Post Excavation Team, contributing to staff training and development.

You will have excellent presentation skills and be able to confidently discuss site works with clients and curatorial archaeologists, and the general public.

The role is based in the historic yet affordable cathedral city of Lincoln, but will involve occasional travel throughout the UK. There is opportunity to work from home and for flexible working arrangements.

Essential:

  • Proven experience of the management and timely delivery of post-excavation projects of all sizes, within agreed budgets
  • A relevant archaeological qualification and excellent knowledge of British archaeology
  • An understanding of relevant heritage legislation and of current national and regional technical standards and guidance
  • The ability to work unsupervised and on your own initiative
  • The ability to write clearly and to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences
  • A positive outlook with the ability to lead by example and to supervise, manage, motivate and co-ordinate a team both locally and remotely
  • Excellent computer literacy and attention to detail
  • An understanding of project planning tools
  • An inquisitive mind and a courteous and professional manner
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Full and Valid UK Driving License

Desirable:

  • Membership of CIfA at MCIfA grade
  • A valid CSCS card
  • Post-graduate archaeological qualification
  • Project Management qualification
  • Knowledge of GIS packages, drawing packages, such as AutoCAD and/or Corel Draw
  • Working knowledge of databases and resource management tools
  • Willingness to make a positive contribution to staff development through mentoring
