40 hours per week, based on a 7.5 hour working day with an additional paid 30 min break for lunch, Monday to Friday.
Salary
£26,923.30 -£30,142.96 (dependent on experience)
Location
Scottish office however some home/hybrid working that can be facilitated if needed.

Job Summary

The role of the Project Supervisor is to oversee Field Services aspects of the project to which they have been assigned. This includes ensuring best archaeological practice in fieldwork and assisting with the logistical requirements of their part of the project; assessing the personnel requirements of their part of the project and ensuring that they are met; it may include liaising with clients, representatives of statutory bodies and local authorities, and communicating the Field Services Manager’s instructions regarding on-site procedure to Project Assistants and General Operatives. The Project Supervisor may also be required to undertake certain post-excavation duties concerned with the production and delivery of site reports

 

Summary of essential job functions

  • Adherence to disciplinary codes of conduct and taking direction from the Project Officer or Field Services Manager on such matters
  • Adherence to all Health & Safety and Waste Management policies and taking direction from the Project Officer or Field Services Manager on such matters
  • Ensuring that they have adequate equipment, tools and resources in order to complete the task/duty assigned to them.
  • Ensuring that best archaeological practice is followed at all times, within the terms of Red River’s excavation manual
  • Implementing the instructions of the Field Services Manager regarding excavation strategies to ensure completion of the site/project on schedule and within budget
  • Carrying out the tasks assigned to them in a timely and efficient manner
  • Working to ensure the site/project is completed on schedule
  • Ensuring the Site Archive is complete and maintained to the highest possible standards
  • Ensuring that all site staff under their supervision are performing tasks appropriate to their grade and are performing tasks to the best of their ability
  • Ensuring that adequate records are kept of all machinery used on site, and the hours in which it was active
  • Undertaking archaeological monitoring of construction/demolition works as required
  • Ensuring logistical works associated with site set up, general maintenance and site closure is undertaken
  • Possible office duties (including, but not limited to)
    • Contributing to the production and delivery of draft preliminary and final reports
    • Data entry of the Site Archive
    • The timely and efficient completion of any tasks assigned
    • Processing and cataloguing of environmental and/or artefactual material

Abilities required

  • Very good communication (oral and written) skills
  • Multi-tasking and time management abilities
  • Ability to integrate quickly and successfully into a team
  • Ability to mediate and facilitate discussion
  • Proficient in Office 365 programmes
  • Ability to work on own initiative with supervision
  • Ability to follow instructions and take direction
  • Knowledge of British Archaeology and History
