Summary
Pre-Construct Archaeology is one of UK’s largest archaeological companies, with seven regional offices across the country. We have been delivering professional heritage services for more than 30 years, working on some of the largest and most complex sites in Britain. As 2024 draws to a close, we are embarking on some very exciting post-excavation projects in the London and Kent regions and are looking to recruit a Roman pottery specialist, to work on assemblages from across the country with a particular emphasis on the Kent region. Training in Kentish fabrics and forms will be provided.

Any successful candidate will undergo a probationary 3-month period after which, given satisfactory performance, they will be offered a further contract, work permitting.
Essential requirements:
- Experience of working with recording and identifying Roman pottery assemblages from Britain (min. 6 months).
- Interest in Roman pottery and learning the regional variations present in assemblages.
- Familiarity with up-to-date recording systems, cataloguing and methods of analysis.
- Awareness of current areas of research within the discipline.
- Degree in archaeology or a related subject.
- An understanding of the operation of commercial archaeology within the UK.
- Proven experience in producing archaeological reports, to at least assessment level.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Computer literacy (MS Office package, databases)
- Willingness to learn new skills
- Eligible to live and work in the UK
Desirable requirements
- Knowledge of geographical information systems.
- Willingness to provide advice on appropriate methodologies relating to the recovery, interpretation, and significance of Roman pottery assemblages.
- Familiarity with completion of archaeological reports to publication standard.
Responsibilities
- Analysis, cataloguing and reporting on Roman pottery assemblages (particularly from Kent) from evaluations and excavations up to publication level.
