How can the planning system contribute to wellbeing in a fairer Scotland?

We are pleased to alert you to a follow up event to our 2014 Annual Lecture from Sir Harry Burns, details below and in the link. We would be grateful of you could promote this through your own networks, newsletters and websites as we think the subject and opportunity should appeal to a wide audience.

How can the planning system contribute to wellbeing in a fairer Scotland?
Wednesday 9 December
18:00-19:30, Hawthornden Lecture Theatre, National Galleries of Scotland, The Mound, Edinburgh

The event is free but booking is required either via eventbrite or email info [at] befs.org.uk.

An evening discussion with Alex Neil MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Communities and Pensioners’ Rights, Sir Harry Burns, Professor of Global Public Health, University of Strathclyde, Pam Ewen, Convenor RTPI Scotland and chaired by Petra Biberbach, Chief Executive PAS.

Now seems the right time to continue a discussion started at BEFS 2014 Annual Lecture by Sir Harry Burns, the then Chief Medical Officer for Scotland, about the contribution the built environment makes to wellbeing. Subsequently the Scottish Government, NHS Scotland and Architecture & Design Scotland have continued to develop the Place Standard to pilot stage.

In the context of the Fairer Scotland project this evening is an opportunity to consider what the planning system can deliver for communities. Following the panel’s discussion the audience will be invited to participate and if you have a question for them to consider let us know via email info [at] befs.org.uk.

Tea and coffee available from 5.30pm for a 6pm start.
