At the CIfA AGM last week we officially launched the release of our new practice paper, An introduction to professional ethics.
The practice paper is a starting point to help archaeologists develop awareness of ethical issues in the profession. It examines what ethics are and what comprises ethical behaviours, and then, using specific case studies relevant to archaeology, takes the reader through a series of questions and discussion as to how these issues could be addressed. The case studies were developed by a Working Group of CIfA members appointed by the Advisory Council and cover

The Practice Paper is available free of charge to all members on the members section of the website. Hard copies are available on request from admin [at] archaeologists.net.

Spotlights on standards – to complement the practice paper we have also been producing, via The Archaeologist, a series of short spotlight articles on the standards and guidance. The two released so far relate to the standard and guidance for desk-based assessment, and for commissioning work or providing consultancy advice on archaeology and the historic environment, and are also available on the members section of the website.
