Wardell Armstrong LLP is a multi-disciplinary environmental consultancy with offices throughout the UK employing c. 500 staff. We have been providing expert archaeological and heritage services for over 25 years. Our Archaeology team is based at 6 of Wardell Armstrong’s UK offices. Our largest centres are in Bury St Edmunds and Carlisle and are home to our purpose-built facilities which also provide the full range of post-excavation services as well as being bases for fieldwork operations.

We are looking for Field Archaeologists and Senior Field Archaeologists on a casual/temporary basis for an excavation project in Lincolnshire, Yorkshire & Wales areas. The projects are expected to last approx. 3-6 months and various hours are on offer.

All casual workers receive a Casual Workers Agreement specific to the particular role you have been taken on to fill. This means there is no obligation on the Firm to offer work, and no obligation on you to accept the work offered. The Firm does not guarantee continuous work and is under no obligation to offer you further engagements or re-engagement.

Archaeologists - Ideally, we are looking for archaeologists with at least 3 months of site experience in commercial archaeology, but we will also consider graduates and applicants with equivalent alternative experience and qualifications.

Depending on experience, hourly rate is £12.82 to £14.19 (inclusive of holiday pay)

Senior Archaeologists supervise fieldwork on projects of all scales, either working independently on smaller jobs (e.g. Watching Brief) or leading a small team (e.g. for a small-scale trial-trenching job), reporting directly to the Project Manager. You may also support larger scale works leading a smaller team within wider delivery, reporting to the Project Lead and taking direction from them. Our ideal candidate would have experience of work at this level.

Depending on experience, hourly rate is £14.41 to £14.90 (inclusive of holiday pay)

Additionally, we require the following for all candidates:

· A degree in archaeology or equivalent experience.
