Summary
HCUK Group seeks an archaeologist with report writing skills to join an enthusiastic workforce. Your core focus will be writing desk based assessments to advise our clients who are navigating the planning and development process.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with 2+ years report writing experience who is looking for the next step in consultancy. Equally for an experienced report-writer looking for a new challenge in a fast paced multi-disciplinary environment.
The full-time role is all home working, with the exception of site visits/meetings. Projects are nationwide so there is great variety, perhaps with an emphasis on the south/south-east. The role provides a balance of teamwork and autonomy – both the opportunity to work closely with our archaeology team, to liaise with colleagues in our wider environmental practice and to work under your own steam from home. HCUK Group is a Registered Organisation with the CIfA.
The Role:
- Preparation of Archaeological Desk Based Assessments
- Associated coordination, research and reporting writing
- Collation of HER data/graphics
- A limited amount of client liaison
- Associated travel for site visits as required

- A minimum of 2 years’ experience in archaeological report writing
- A track record of working in a fast paced environment
- Organisational and administrative skills
- Very good written and verbal communication skills
- Experience of mainstream IT packages – Excel, Word, PDF
- Full clean UK driver’s licence
Desirable
- GIS skills
- Experience of Archaeological ES Chapters and ASIDOHLS would be an advantage.
Who You Are:
- A member of CIfA (ideally to Associate level or above)
- Highly organised and able to manage own workload and deadlines
- A multi-tasker
What’s On Offer:
- A varied role in an established and reputable environmental consultancy
- Competitive salary commensurate with skills and experience
- Travel expenses paid
- Private healthcare (post-probation)
- 5% pension contribution
