Summary
The Role
Duration: Up to end March (with possibility of extension)
We are looking to recruit hard-working and enthusiastic Archaeologists to join our London field team. MOLA has a policy of mentoring and training staff at all levels to develop individual capabilities and enhance career prospects, with opportunities for internal advancement and promotion, as well as developing specialist skills.
We have many exciting projects of all sizes, covering different types of archaeology, ongoing or due to start imminently. Our teams are currently working on infrastructure, residential and commercial developments. A significant proportion of our work is in Greater London, but we also work on many sites across the south of England.
Some of our recent and ongoing excavation projects include:
- Deeply stratified sites in the City of London – excavating a full sequence of remains from the present day to Roman.
- A Medieval to Post Medieval waterfront site in North Kent.
- Rural excavations of Romano-British settlements.
- Excavations at scheduled monuments such as Hampton Court Palace.
The role primarily involves excavating and recording archaeology of various periods on a range of site and project types.
The role will be contracted to the MOLA London office, with work taking place on projects within Greater London and across the country. Transport to sites outside of London is provided, and subsistence and accommodation costs are provided for away work.
We would be particularly keen to hear from candidates in the Medway/Kent area as we have some really interesting work coming up in the local area in the New Year.
We have start dates available throughout December, January and February offers will be made to suitable candidates before the closing date, so early applications are advised!
We are looking for people with:
- Experience of archaeological excavation and recording systems and fieldwork, especially on commercial projects.
- Good organisational, communication and teamwork skills.
- A commitment to creating a safe, positive, and inclusive work environment.
- A valid driving license and happy to drive company vehicles.
- Willing to work on away work projects.
If you would like more information regarding the opportunity or an informal discussion about the role, please contact the London Field Team Manager, John Quarrell (jquarrell@mola.org.uk).
