Summary
Archaeological Consultant/ Senior consultant, with experience in the preparation of technical documents supporting clients in addressing heritage constraints. The appointee will have an understanding of the legislative and planning policy framework within which commercial archaeology is undertaken in the UK. Applicants should have experience of preparing archaeological desk-based assessments and experience of preparing environmental impact assessments and written schemes of investigation is desirable. Full training will be given.

Candidates will be expected to have good subject knowledge and demonstrable skills and experience in assessing the historic environment.
Candidates will be able to work autonomously but with supervision, experience of liaising with clients and negotiating with statutory consultees desirable but not essential, assessing impacts on the historic environment, and offering technical advice. You will work on projects and with colleagues from across Orion. Key responsibilities include:
- Undertake desk-based research, site visits and reporting, and to contribute to the preparation of consultancy documents as required.
- Manage project finances - setting up tenders, projects, managing work in progress and issuing invoices; manage work across multiple projects (training will be provided).
- Identify and exploit commercial opportunities, supporting sales efforts; develop client relationships; liaise with clients, consultees and manage contractors.
You must have the following essential criteria:
- A sound understanding of the policy and legislative context for UK archaeology.
- Be able to relate research themes in British archaeology to projects.
- A degree and/or a post graduate degree in archaeology or related subject
- Experience of preparing DBAs
- Full driving licence and willingness to drive (although we encourage use of public transport)
- A thorough understanding of the health and safety requirements relevant to the role
- Good organisational & communication skills; willingness to develop your people skills.
Desirable criteria:
- CIfA membership at ACIfA level or above
- Knowledge of a GIS package is desirable.
- An understanding of assessing development impacts on the settings of heritage assets
- Sefl motivated and ability to multi-task.
