This Toolkit includes a proposed terminology for material types in the form of a Materials Word List, which can be used at any stage of finds recording. Whatever systems are used, records must be supported by metadata, including descriptions of field names in databases or spreadsheets, explanations of any codes used, and references to relevant classifications, guidance, methodologies, reference collections, standards or thesauri.
