Student or Affiliate members are expected to support and work towards the CIfA Code of conduct. As they are not yet professionally accredited, we do not assess technical or ethical competence and no references are needed.
There are many benefits to becoming a non-accredited member, including discounted training and networking opportunities. For more details see membership benefits.
Students
If you are a student enrolled on an appropriate course*, select Student membership.
Student members need to be undertaking
- a full or part-time course (normally half or greater than a working week) of study in subjects relevant to archaeology and the historic environment
OR - an unrelated course of study but with an aspiration to pursue a career in archaeology and the historic environment
OR - a programme of vocational training approved by CIfA
You can continue as a Student member for up to one year after you have graduated, regardless of your employment status. We will then automatically transfer you to Affiliate member or you can consider upgrading to be an accredited member.
Affiliates
If you are not a student, but you are interested in archaeology and don't yet meet the criteria for accreditation, select Affiliate membership.
Lapsed membership?
If you were previously a Student or Affiliate member, you can re-join CIfA by applying below. If you were a Student and are no longer studying, you will need to join at Affiliate.
Subscription fees
Please see our current subscription fees.
The amount you pay will vary depending on when you join CIfA. Our subscription year runs from1 April to 31 March. For example if you join in October, you will pay half year's fee.
