About AB Heritage

AB Heritage is a professional archaeological and heritage consultancy working across the UK. We support clients in meeting their heritage responsibilities through clear, commercially aware advice, underpinned by high standards and a supportive team culture.

The Opportunity

We’re looking to appoint either a Heritage Consultant or a Senior Heritage Consultant, depending on your experience and skills.

This is a remote, home-based role for applicants based in the South-East or Midlands area of England, with regular site visits and occasional overnight stays required. Attendance at our Jarrow head office is expected a few times per year.

You’ll contribute to a wide range of heritage consultancy projects, including:

  • Desk-Based Assessments
  • Heritage Statements
  • Historic Building Recording reports
  • Written Schemes of Investigation
  • Cultural Heritage ES Chapters for EIA

Who We’re Looking For

Heritage Consultant

You may be relatively early in your consultancy career (1 – 2 years’ experience) but able to deliver high-quality reports and manage smaller projects. Practical archaeological fieldwork experience, or transferable planning / policy knowledge, is valuable.

Senior Heritage Consultant

You’ll bring at least 3+ years of commercial consultancy experience, with a track record of delivering complex projects, communicating effectively with clients and stakeholders, and supporting junior team members.

Essential Requirements (All Applicants)

  • Experience in heritage consultancy or a related sector
  • Strong research, writing, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with UK planning and heritage legislation
  • CIfA membership (PCIfA or above; ACIfA expected for Senior role)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel and work away from home occasionally
  •

Desirable

  • IHBC membership (particularly for those with a built heritage focus)
  • Experience in Historic Building Recording, HLCA, or Cultural Heritage EIA

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary based on experience and role level
  • London living allowance for qualifying locations
  • Contributory pension scheme (after qualifying period)
  • Profit Share Scheme (after qualifying period)
  • 29 – 33 days annual leave (including bank holidays)
  • Subsistence payments for overnight stays
  • Full reimbursement of CIfA / IHBC membership fees
  • Supportive, professional working environment with flexibility and autonomy
