Teaching, learning and neurodiversity in archaeology and heritage roundtable

Monthly online round table sessions for sharing best practice in archaeological pedagogy organised by Dr Hannah Cobb (University of Manchester, UK) and Dr Karina Croucher (University of Bradford, UK). The next virtual roundtable in teaching and learning will focus on neurodiversity in teaching and learning in Higher Education in Heritage and Archaeology.

In this session, co-run with the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists, we explore this topic, beginning with panellists sharing their experiences:

  • Professor Penny Spikins, University of York - the value of neurodiversity
  • Megan Schlanker, recent graduate - a student's perspective on neurodiversity
  • Dr Emma Brown, founder of neurodiversity staff network, University of Bradford

More about the Teaching and Learning in Archaeology & Heritage Roundtables

What?
We invite all those teaching in archaeology and heritage, around the world, to join these relaxed and informal online round table discussion sessions which focus on different aspects of teaching and learning in archaeology. The full schedule is below. These sessions are predominantly aimed at those teaching in Further and Higher Education, but all educators are welcome.

When?
Every month, for the foreseeable future. Please visit https://archaeologytandl.wordpress.com/ for details of future events.

Why?
Our subject is practical, visceral, political and material. As a result, teaching archaeology presents a set of unique challenges. In the wake of COVID-19 we find ourselves faced with the additional challenge of teaching and communicating this in a largely online world. In these sessions we invite the global community of those teaching archaeology and heritage to come together, and to listen, learn and share best practice to overcome these challenges.
