MOLA is a well-established and innovative archaeological organisation and one of the leading voices within the profession. Our expert commercial services support clients in their sustainable development and we conduct highly significant research both as part of the development process and independently within our own framework.
As a charity where education is at our forefront, our aim is to inspire people to be curious about their heritage as we set out to share our knowledge and information with the widest audience possible.
We are looking for people to join us who are passionate about delivering quality heritage services and about using archaeology as a force for good to benefit society.
ABOUT THE ROLE
MOLA is continuing to grow at a fast pace, and we are looking to recruit hard-working and enthusiastic Project Officers to join our Stansted field team. MOLA has a policy of mentoring and training staff at all levels in order to develop individual capabilities and enhance career prospects, with opportunities for internal advancement and promotion, as well as developing specialist skills.
Recent highlights from our Stansted office include a Bronze Age cremation cemetery, extensive Iron Age and Roman settlements, and part of a Roman industrial complex.
We have several exciting projects of all sizes, covering different types of archaeology, ongoing or due to start imminently. Our teams are currently working on infrastructure, residential and commercial developments. Examples of projects include:
- A project with extensive late prehistoric and Roman occupation in Hertfordshire
- A project with multi phased archaeology in East Anglia
- A project with significant early post-glacial environmental remains in Cambridgeshire
The role will be contracted to the MOLA Stansted office, with work taking place on projects within Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and surrounding counties. A full, clean driving licence valid in the UK is essential for this role as regular travel will be required, and MOLA vehicles will be provided. Subsistence and accommodation costs are also provided for away work in line with MOLA policy.
The role involves being responsible for medium to large fieldwork projects, both in terms of directing work on site and carrying out the subsequent post-excavation analysis and reporting.
We are looking for people with:
- Significant experience supervising commercial fieldwork projects covering a range of periods and site-types;
- Exceptional organisational, communication and teamwork skills;
- A track record in liaising effectively with colleagues, clients and planning representatives;
- Experience in post-excavation analysis and reporting;
- A commitment to creating a safe, positive, and inclusive work environment.
The Job Description and Person Specification provides further detail on the skills, knowledge and experience we are looking for in the ideal candidate.
We have start dates available throughout April and May and offers may be made to suitable candidates before the closing date, so early applications are advised! We are offering permanent contracts, subject to successful completion of a six-month probationary period.
If you would like more information regarding the opportunity or an informal discussion about the role, please contact the Stansted Regional Manager, Peter Boyer (pboyer@mola.org.uk).
