I have been working in commercial archaeology since April 2023, following the completion of my MSc in Funerary Archaeology. My interest in archaeology developed at an early age, leading me to volunteer in both community excavations and field schools before university. Upon finishing my studies, progressing into commercial fieldwork felt like the natural next step in developing my career. While working for York Archaeology I have gained a wide variety of experience and it has allowed me to apply the skills and knowledge I gained during my master’s degree to osteological analysis and reporting.
Joining CIfA was significant to me as it represented an important step in the career I have wanted to pursue for a long time. The osteological guidance provided by CIfA also underpins professional standards in archaeology, and by being a member, I am able to demonstrate my commitment to adhering to these standards in my own work. In my application, I drew upon the varied experience I have gained so far in my career, including my reporting. I followed CIfA’s guidance, took advice from accredited colleagues and had help from the CIfA application team throughout the process.
