This project is focused on converting the content of the published Archaeologists Guide to Good Practice Handbook (May et al 2024) into an online Toolkit for Post-Excavation Stratigraphic Analysis, endorsed by the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) and Historic England (HE), with the development of additional resources to support implementation and good practice. The final Toolkit will sit alongside CIfA's other Toolkits with integration and signposting between resources, especially the Toolkit for Managing Digital Data (Dig Digital) The Toolkit will provide the Historic Environment sector with guidance to ensure reliable and consistent planning, processing, assessment analysis and reporting of stratigraphic data and analysis from archaeological work undertaken during post-excavation.

The project is being delivered by a team of sector specialists, including those involved in the original Practice Handbook development. The work is being supported by a project advisory board.

Key project team: Keith May (Historic England), James Taylor (University of York)
