MOLA is a highly experienced and innovative archaeology practice and one of the leading voices in the profession. Our expert commercial services support clients in their sustainable development, and we conduct highly significant research both as part of the development process and independently within our own framework.

As an educational charity, we aim to inspire people to be curious about their heritage and share our knowledge and information with the widest possible audience.

We are seeking individuals who are passionate about delivering high-quality heritage services and utilising archaeology as a force for good to benefit society.

ABOUT THE ROLE

MOLA is continuing to grow at a fast pace, and we are looking to recruit hard-working and enthusiastic Archaeologists to join our Northampton field team. MOLA has a policy of mentoring and training staff at all levels to develop individual capabilities and enhance career prospects, with opportunities for internal advancement and promotion, as well as developing specialist skills.

Recent highlights from our Northampton office include a large Anglo-Saxon settlement and cemetery, Neolithic burials, extensive Iron Age and Roman settlements, and part of a Medieval manorial complex.

  • We have several exciting projects of all sizes, covering different types of archaeology, ongoing or due to start imminently. Our teams are currently working on infrastructure, residential and commercial development projects. Examples of these projects include a multi-phased archaeology project in East Anglia.
  • Iron age settlement sites in Northamptonshire.

The role primarily involves excavating and recording archaeology of various periods on a range of site and project types, in line with MOLA procedures. Training may be provided to monitor plant machinery on site, and to use GPS to record archaeological features. There may also be opportunities to contribute to post-excavation processes.

The role will be contracted to the MOLA Northampton office, with work taking place on projects within Northamptonshire and outside of the county. Transportation from the Northampton office to sites will be provided using the MOLA fleet vehicles. Subsistence and accommodation costs are provided for away working in line with MOLA policy.

We are looking for people with:

  • Use or knowledge of archaeological recording systems
  • At least 2-weeks consistent experience in site based archaeological fieldwork.
  • Good organisational, communication and teamwork skills
  • A commitment to creating a safe, positive, and inclusive work environment.
  • We are particularly interested in applications from archaeologists who would be willing to drive for MOLA.

We have start dates available throughout July and August. Phone interviews will be conducted throughout June and the beginning of July. Offers will be made to suitable candidates throughout this period. Contract end dates will initially be the 19 of December 2025, with the possibility of an extension.

If you would like more information regarding the opportunity or an informal discussion about the role, please contact the MOLA Field Delivery Manager Gemma Hewitt Ghewitt@mola.org.uk
