The Local Government Network is for any CIfA members working in local government, national park authorities, or local authority museums at all career stages. This will include planning advisors, service managers, HER officers, museum curators, fieldwork staff, and more. Activities undertaken by the group may also be relevant to those working in development-led archaeology who regularly work with local authorities. The Group will also seek to engage archaeological professionals who work with local authority staff and with professionals outside the sector.

Aims of the Network

The Local Government Network aims to

  • Provide a mechanism for information sharing among CIfA members working in local government/National Park authorities
  • Provide a platform for hosting events providing CPD, networking opportunities, and peer support on relevant practice issues
  • Improve the frequency of communication of relevant information to CIfA members working in local government
  • Bring in expertise from CIfA members to inform CIfA advocacy on issues relating to local government
  • Steer CIfA projects (e.g. Standards & Guidance) and explore opportunities for future work
  • Engage and promote discussion with archaeological professionals who are service users of local authority archaeological services and outside sectors (e.g. planning officers).
