About AB Heritage

AB Heritage is a professional archaeological and heritage consultancy working across the UK. We support clients in meeting their heritage responsibilities through clear, commercially aware advice, underpinned by high standards and a supportive team culture.

The Role

We are recruiting an experienced Heritage Consultant or Senior Heritage Consultant to join our team. This is not an entry-level position — we are looking for proven professionals with recent, meaningful consultancy experience who can deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision.

This is a remote role for applicants based in the South-East or Midlands, with regular site visits and occasional overnight stays required. Attendance at our Jarrow head office is expected a few times per year.

You will produce / contribute to a wide range of heritage consultancy projects, including:

  • Desk-Based Assessments
  • Heritage Statements
  • Historic Building Recording reports
  • Written Schemes of Investigation
  • Cultural Heritage ES Chapters for EIA
  • Monitoring of archaeological fieldwork

Who Should Apply

This role is for proven heritage professionals with recent, demonstrable consultancy experience. You should be confident in producing a range of consultancy outputs — including DBAs, Heritage Statements, Historic Building Recording, WSIs — and in monitoring on-site archaeological or Geophysical Survey works.

We are not offering training posts and will only shortlist applicants who clearly demonstrate strong and relevant consultancy experience in both their CV and covering email.

Requirements

Heritage Consultant

  • Around 1–2 years’ direct consultancy experience
  • Ability to deliver high-quality reports and manage smaller projects

Senior Heritage Consultant

  • At least 2 - 3+ years’ commercial consultancy experience
  • Confident in heritage consultant role requirements plus managing more complex projects, costing works, and high-level client liaison

Essential (all applicants)

  • Proven heritage consultancy experience
  • Strong research, writing, and communication skills
  • Familiarity with UK planning and heritage legislation
  • CIfA membership (PCIfA for Heritage Consultant; ACIfA for Senior)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to travel and stay away overnight

Desirable

  • IHBC membership (for built heritage specialists)
  • Experience with Historic Building Recording and EIA heritage inputs

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary (depending on level and experience)
  • £1,200 Outer London or £2,400 Inner London allowance (pro rata, if applicable to your location)
  • Contributory pension scheme (after qualifying period)
  • Profit Share Scheme (after qualifying period)
  • 29–33 days annual leave depending on role (including bank holidays)
  • Subsistence payments for overnight stays
  • Full reimbursement of respective CIfA / IHBC membership fees

How to Apply

Please send your CV and a short covering email to info@abheritage.co.uk by Friday 26 September 2025.

  • In your email, clearly state whether you are applying for the Heritage Consultant or Senior Consultant position.
  • Highlight your recent and relevant consultancy experience — this will be the basis for shortlisting.
