CIfA is delighted to announce the publication of the Archaeology and Solar Farms Good Practice Guide, which can be viewed by following this link.
The Guide seeks to formalise good practice, helping solar developers to integrate archaeological considerations from early in the project planning processes through to final design. It will also assist heritage professionals in ensuring proportionate approaches, for example to evaluation timing and focussed trenching.
It’s hoped that the Guide will reduce friction at solar farm consenting, and help to inform and set expectations for all stakeholders ahead of site-specific negotiations on applications for solar farm consents.
The Guide has been collaboratively produced with representatives from the archaeology and solar sectors, and is jointly badged by the Association of Local Government Archaeological Officers (ALGAO), CIfA, the Federation of Archaeological Managers and Employers (FAME), Historic England and Solar Energy UK (SEUK).
CIfA strongly welcomes the finalisation of the Good Practice Guide, celebrating the collaborative achievement of all involved. A formal launch event is being planned later this spring, but the guidance can be used immediately by practitioners.
