MOLA is seeking a Project Supervisor to join our Geophysical Survey Team based in Northampton. We’re looking for a candidate with proven experience in commercial archaeological geophysics—either an established supervisor or an experienced survey assistant ready to take the next step in their career.
The duties of the Supervisor will include leading survey teams in the field, preparing WSIs and RAMS, processing and interpreting data and writing and illustrating survey reports. They will work under the direction of the Geophysical Survey Manager but will be expected to exercise some autonomy in routine operational matters.
The successful candidate will understand the practicalities of archaeological geophysics and will have basic technical knowledge of common survey techniques including, but not limited to, magnetometry. They will have a sound understanding of British archaeology and some skill in data interpretation.
We’re looking for someone with strong organisational skills, the ability to meet deadlines, and a clear understanding of budget management. You’ll be computer literate, confident in written English, and able to communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, and landowners.
Membership of CIfA is preferred. A full, clean driving licence is essential, as regular travel will be required using MOLA vehicles. An allowance is provided for driving time outside of standard working hours.
The geophysics team works across southern and central England and many of our sites are beyond easy commuting distance of Northampton. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake frequent ‘away work’, for which overnight accommodation and a subsistence allowance will be provided.
We are looking for people with:
- Experience in commercial archaeological geophysics
- Basic technical knowledge of magnetometry and other relevant techniques
- Confidence in speaking with clients, farmers and other third parties
- A good working knowledge of British archaeology
- A good standard of written English
- A full, clean driving licence
