Archaeological Research Services Ltd are recruiting a Geoarchaeologist/Senior Geoarchaeologist to join our highly regarded Specialist Services team.

Applications are invited for a professional, highly motivated and capable Geoarchaeologist. Are you a well-organised geoarchaeologist with attention to detail and excellent writing skills? We are looking for someone who has strong sediment logging, monolith sampling and interpretation skills, is proficient at producing reports, using IT and able to undertake geomorphic mapping and, ideally, create deposit models. We have developed a unique suite of techniques using state of the art equipment that allows us to undertake our ‘Advanced Sediment Profiling’ using pOSL, Gamma Spectrometer, pXRF and mag susc instrumentation, together with sampling for sedaDNA.

This is a unique integrated offering and puts our geoarchaeologists at the front of field analysis. This post will be based at our Bakewell offices and Sheffield environmental unit, with travel for meetings, site visits and training as appropriate although there may be room for discussing remote-working arrangements. You will be responsible for contributing work on commercial and research-based archaeological projects. Any additional specialisms, such as plant macrofossils, wood IDs or pollen would be welcomed. A thorough knowledge of British archaeology is helpful and the ability to ‘make sense’ of geoarchaeological data and sites and place them in their regional/national context. You must be able to work as an effective team member who can be relied on to deliver to deadlines. We are a high performing company with a professional and friendly culture and with many outstanding performers. We maintain a high commitment to staff development and training and look forward to supporting career development and developing people to be the best they can be.

In return, we offer an exciting range of employee benefits:

  • Competitive salary
  • Bonus scheme linked to achieving Company performance targets
  • Attractive Company pension contribution
  • Life assurance cover
