You will be out in the field and behind the scenes, working on diverse nationwide projects. Spanning flood risk and climate resilience schemes to renewable energy, Scheduled Monument condition surveys, historic landscape assessments, Listed Building Consents, and community engagement.
No two days are the same. You’ll quickly gain exposure to historic environment challenges and play a key role in shaping landscapes.

Your role:
You will work across the full historic environment spectrum; archaeology, historic buildings, and landscapes, with room to develop your voice, try new things, and make a real impact. The main responsibilities include:
- Supporting the wider Archaeology and Heritage team in heritage work across a variety of nationwide projects.
- Baseline research including site and archives visits.
- Data management including GIS and preparation of figures.
- Contributing to the preparation of desk-based assessments (DBA), heritage statements, written schemes of investigation, environmental statement (ES) chapters, Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), setting assessments and other formal written advice.
- Inputting to the design of projects and developments to minimise heritage impacts and realise enhancements or benefits.
- Preparing and submitting Scheduled Monument Consent and Listed Building Consent applications.
- Consultation with stakeholders and statutory consultees.
- Assisting with developing new work business and contributing to the preparation of tenders and fee proposals.
- Assisting with project management and implementing quality and health and safety principles.
The team member we are looking for:
We are looking for a hard-working, committed and enthusiastic individual, who can demonstrate effective communication and team working skills. Experience of undertaking heritage assessments, an understanding of the planning system, or a specific area of relevant expertise would be valuable, but an enthusiasm for learning and an interest in the delivery of high-quality heritage and design solutions are also key attributes.
You will be able to communicate with different audiences and be able to work effectively as part of a team and independently. The ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines concurrently is also important.
We are looking for an individual with:
- A degree in archaeology, heritage management or other relevant subject, or equivalent.
- Membership of CIfA and/or IHBC or willingness to become accredited.
- Full UK driving licence.
Essential attributes for the role:
- Understanding of British archaeology, historic buildings and historic landscapes.
- Knowledge and understanding of heritage legislation across the United Kingdom.
- Able to communicate effectively, with experience and confidence in talking to a variety of audiences.
- Concise and clear report writing skills.
- The ability to work independently and within teams.
- The motivation and initiative to prioritise your own workload.
- The confidence to attend meetings and discuss information and recommendations with a mixed audience.
Desirable attributes for the role:
- Knowledge and understanding of geoarchaeology and palaeoenvironmental archaeology.
- Knowledge and understanding of marine and inter-tidal heritage issues.
- Built heritage recording.
- Experience of assessing effects on the setting of heritage assets.
- Monument condition surveys and assessment.
- GIS (ideally QGIS) and CAD software packages.
